BURZUM – FILOSOFEM

Filosofem was the last album Varg Recorded before imprisioned ‘93,it was the fourth studio LP recorded in „Breidablik Studio“ on march ‘93.Acctually it was released in ‘96 through „Misanthropy Records“ , in german and norwegian version.
It contains 6 song:
1.Dunkelheit(Burzum):This song was written in ‘91 and its about the rise and fall of life , it also was the song choosen for his first promo video during 7′05min showing norwegian landscapes.In this first song you will apreciate the change of voice of Varg passing to be more like nowdays black metal.

2.Jesus tod(jesu dod):Written in ‘93 it means „Jesus dead“ , its all about the evil that Christianity spread over the vikingland by destroying the ancient temples to build over them their own temples and how about they eat the mans minds to forget their ancient wisdom.You have to think of the song title like a call to arms ¡¡¡JESUS(= christianity)we want himDEAD!!!!!.well the song is 8′39min long it has as much as 5 guittar riffs and a constant drum beat until 1′20min begins.Well its quite simple to play technically, but its a bit hard to become the feeling that he had at the moment of its creation(everyone who knows about BLACK METAL knows what im talking about.

3.Erblicket die tochter des firmaments(beholding the daugther of the firmament):Written ‘93. Well this song talks about the changes that hapens in world and human nature such as changing seasons,end & beggining of day, the different feeling with that you stand up everyday you wake up…..Its a quite a slow song more inspired to make you think about your feelings.Its at last 7′53min long.

4.Gebrechlichkeit(decrepitude):Written in ‘92,the song tlaks about the decrepitude of man and nature and as much we need one of the other to keep on living.It has a quite sad keybord riffthat makes you go down into the darkest corners of your mind.Its 7,52min long,there are no really big changes in the guitar play but its still a great song.

5.Rundgang um die tranzendentale säule der singularität(rundtgaing av den transcendentale egenhetens stotte):Well this song is as long as its name 25′11 min and theres no change until min 10′4o.Its a ambient song written in ‘93 and even if theres no voice,there are still lirics to read while listening the song.The lyrics talks about the journey until you reach Odin the real God of this world.

6.Gebrechlichkeit II(decrepitude II):7′52 min play time,written in ‘92 its just like an outro for the CD it has a quite anoying guitar and a constant sound of bones falling to the ground.It has no lirycs neither to read or to listen I think its more a song to make your own conclussion about the matters of life.

The artwork for the CD was made by Theodor Kittelsen(april 27,1857 – january 21,1914)he was famous for landscapes paintings & for illustrations of fairytales and legends.Varg used his paintings in most of his albums.

Well this it is so far this is my first critic writting I ever made,the whole thing was made while listening to the album,for me its a great album but not one of his best work.Hope you enjoyed reading this and please tell me if theres anything I’ve forgotten and please remember that the song reviews are under my own feelings and under what I understand about it.
